READ260 – September

September 1st, 2013 by Miles Tradewell

Reading Notes for September [PDF]

For many of us, September is a time for new beginnings. It’s a good point to stand back and take a look at how you’re spending your time. Is there space in your life for God to change you through his word? The author of Hebrews realised the power of God’s word to diagnose and operate on our hearts. He described it as, “alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). Time with God’s word is something that every Christian needs.

But when it comes to reading the Bible we can often be paralyzed by guilt; we feel inadequate, we know we’ve failed in the past and we don’t know how to get going again. One of the best things we can do is remember that God knows us better than we know ourselves. When he saved us we were failures; we’re products of his grace and the work is ongoing! He’s not surprised when we mess up, and he’s always waiting to pour grace upon grace. Why not pick up READ260 again this month? Our God specialises in fresh starts.
